About Steve Parkes
About Steve Parkes
Steve Parkes has worked in the fish business since 1982, starting with a little truck, then moving on to the fish pier. He moved on to Whole Foods as the top fish buyer for six years and now is the owner of Cape Ann Fresh Catch, a Community Supported Fishery (CSF for short) based in Gloucester, with eight drop-off points in the Boston area where members receive fresh fish every week for 12 weeks. "The CSA model brings more money to the farm and has helped people understand what goes on in a smaller farm as opposed to big agri-business," says Steve, shoreside coordinator for the CSF. "We, too, want people to be more in touch with their fisherman, and understand what it takes to get fish to the door." Steve's fish filleting motto? "Just relax and don’t let the fish win.”
