Greek Easter Eggs

Makes 6 eggs

Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • ½ dozen hard-boiled eggs (brown or white)
  • 12 tsp food dye (any color you wish)
  • 6 tbsp vinegar
  • pantyhose (1 pack should be enough for 6 eggs)
  • herbs (any kind you wish)
  • olive oil or vegetable oil (optional)

How-to

  1. Cut the pantyhose in rectangular pieces, large enough to wrap the egg
  2. Place the cut pantyhose on a flat surface. Place a leaf from the herb on one side of the egg. Put the egg and leaf facing down towards the pantyhose.  Grab all corners of the pantyhose and tie it from the top. Continue until all the eggs are done
  3. Boil 6 cups of water.  Add the vinegar and food dye. Turn off the water
  4. Place all the wrapped eggs in a shallow dish so that they all fit in one layer
  5. Pour the water over the eggs and let sit for 30-45 minutes until the water cools.
When the water is cool, remove the eggs and place on paper towels. Let dry a few minutes
  6. Remove the pantyhose and leaf from the eggs. Let dry a few more minutes
  7. If desired, rub olive oil or vegetable oil on the dried eggs to give them luster
